More than 1.6 Lakh India left their citizenship in 2021, the highest in the last five years, according to information provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) at Lok Sabha on Tuesday. More than 78,000 Indians acquired the U.S. citizenship, the highest among all other countries, by handing over Indian citizenship. India does not allow double citizenship. A total of 362 Indians living in China also gained Chinese citizenship.

The Minister of State for Nityanand Rai’s house, responded to a question by Fazlur Rehman, said in a written answer that “People who leave Indian citizenship for personal reasons to them.”

In 2018, MHA revised the XXII form under citizenship rules and included the column about “the condition/reason because which applicant intends to obtain foreign citizenship and leave Indian citizenship.”

The answer states that the number of Indians living in Australia who released their citizenship was established in 23,533, Canada-21,597, UK-14,637, Italy-5,986, Netherlands-2187, New Zealand-2643, Singapore- 2516, A.S.- 78284, Pakistan- Singapore- 2516, A.- 78284, Pakistan-Singapore- 2516, A.- 78284, Pakistan-2516, A.-78284, Pakistan-2516, A.- 78284, Pakistan-Singapore-2516, A.- 78284. 41 and Nepal-10.

A reply completed by the ministry in 2021 said that the number of Indians who handed over citizenship in 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 was established at 1,33,049, 1,34,561, 1,44,017 and 85,248 each.
