The government has held a meeting of all parties for chaos in Sri Lanka tonight, following the appeal by parties based in Tamil Nadu to intervene in the crisis.
Minister of Finance Nirmala Sitharaman and Minister of Foreign Affairs S Jaishankar will tell the floor leaders of all political parties in the two parliamentary buildings at the meeting.
On Sunday, at the meeting of all parties ahead of the Parliamentary Monsoon session, DMK and AiadMK demanded that India intervene in a crisis around a neighboring country, which faced the worst economic emergency in seven decades.
The government has held a meeting to overcome the concerns of several political parties, especially in Tamil Nadu because they are worried about the condition of the country’s Tamil population and the entry of refugees in the state, said government sources.
The source said that Foreign Minister Vinay Mohan Kwatra was likely to make a presentation in front of members about the situation in the island country and assistance provided by India so far.
In addition to sending assistance through various channels, India has so far maintained the role of hand in the crisis. India has convinced Sri Lanka that they will continue to support democracy, stability, and economic recovery in the country.
Last week, the Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said that Sri Lanka took a central place in the first policy of his environment. “India stands with the people of Sri Lanka when they try to realize their aspirations for prosperity and progress through democratic means and values, established institutions and constitutional frameworks,” he said.
Sri Lanka Parliament will elect a new president tomorrow. Acting President Ranil Wickremesinghe will face former Minister of Education Dullas Alahapperuma and Anura’s left leader in the election. Previously today, the opposition leader Sajith Premadasa withdrew from the presidential election, to support MR Alahapperouma.
Sources said large protests had been planned ahead of the presidential election. The emergency has been imposed in the country as a precautionary action to ensure the safety of parliamentary members who will vote tomorrow to elect the next country’s president.
After Gotabaya Rajapaksa resigned as president after a massive protest last week, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was installed as an acting presidential president of the crisis.
Sri Lanka’s protest movement reached its 1100 day on Sunday. The protesters blamed the Rajapaksa family for the country’s financial chaos, which had forced 22 million people to bear the lack of food, fuel, and medicine since the end of last year.
Sri Lanka Default on foreign debt of $ 51 billion in April and is in talks with the IMF for the possibility of a bailout. The island almost spent a rare gasoline supply. The government has ordered the closure of offices and schools that are not important to reduce travel and save fuel.
