Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, old allied Russian President Vladimir Putin, was in New Delhi for official visits on Friday. The visit came when Russia was at the end of the recipient of extensive criticism of the invasion of Ukraine.

During his visit, Lavrov met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and told him about the situation in Ukraine, including ongoing peace negotiations.

Prime Minister repeated his call for the initial termination of violence and expressed India’s readiness to contribute in any way for peace efforts. Russian Foreign Minister also renewed the prime minister about the progress of the decision taken in December December 2021,” said a statement from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO ).

Previously on that day, Minister of Sergey Lavrov and the Minister of External (EAM) S Jaishankar was part of a closed meeting of the Russian and Indian delegation at Hyderabad House in the National Capital.

Eam underlines that as a developing economy, global volatility in different domains is a special concern for India. It is important for both countries contacted by economics, technology and their people-to-people.

The statement continued to add that the two ministers discussed the development related to Ukraine and the situation in Afghanistan, in addition to the joint comprehensive action plan (JCPOA), better known as Iran’s nuclear agreement.

Referring to Ukraine, Eam Jaishankar emphasized the importance of cessation of violence and ended hostility. Differences and disputes must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy and by respecting international law, the United Nations Charter, Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity of the State, he said.
