Prime Minister Boris Johnson offered an apology to the House of Commons for violating the UK locking rules he arrested, while insisting that there was nothing wrong.
Johnson has paid a fine to attend the event at Downing Street on his birthday in June 2020, and may face a further fine because the London metropolitan police finished their investigation into further government meetings while reduced by Coronavirus for the past two years.
Let me also say not by mitigation or reason, but pure, pure because it explains my previous words in this house, that it didn’t happen to me at that time or later, the day gathered in the cabinet room, just before the vital meets Covid’s strategy, can amount to violations of rules, “Johnson said.” That’s my mistake. And I’m sorry for that, without conditions.
MPS will choose in Commons on Thursday about whether to refer Johnson to the standard committee for the misleading parliament.
